Meet Ryder – 48 Pounds of Loyal, Velcro Goodness

Ryder is a 4½-year-old, 48-pound bundle of sweetness who is ready to be someone’s very best friend. If you’re looking for a devoted sidekick with a big heart and an even bigger cuddle game, Ryder might just be your guy.

The Good Stuff (and there’s a lot of it!)

Ryder already knows Come, Sit, Shake, and High Five like a pro. He rides beautifully in the car (just say “Load up!” and he hops in), sits calmly in the back seat, and has officially decided that pup cups are, in fact, a very good thing.

He is:

House trained and crate trained (crates quietly with minimal whining)

- A supreme cuddler with an excellent “off switch”
- A classic velcro dog who prefers to be near his person at all times
- Great with appropriate dog introductions and respectful of cranky seniors
- Gentle taking treats and very food-motivated (training bonus!)
- A fan of snuffle mats and scent work
- Up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm negative, on preventatives, neutered, and microchipped

Ryder loves walks and nature outings — though “walk” may sometimes turn into “intense sniffing expedition.” He does a lot of sniffing and would likely thrive in scent classes. He might even enjoy agility once he builds confidence with new environments.

In the house, he’ll play fetch and enjoys Kong-style toys. Sofas and chairs were once suspicious, but now? Prime cuddle real estate.

What He’s Working On

Ryder is a good boy who just needs a little polishing in a few areas:

- Leash walking: He’s a bit of a puller but does well on a harness (once it’s on — he pancakes a little during the dressing process).
- Stay/Wait: Solid in the car, still learning to generalize in the yard or house.
- Recall: Pretty good — unless there are chickens in a coop. Chickens are… fascinating.
- Fetch in the yard: Chase? Yes. Return? Optional.

He can be a little cautious meeting new people but warms up quickly with treats. He has not been tested in a home with cats or kids yet. At the vet, he observed cats without reacting, but slow introductions would be best in any new home.

He does best with a slow feeder bowl because meals are his favorite sport.

The Perfect Home for Ryder

Ryder would thrive with someone who:

- Enjoys a loyal companion at their side
- Is willing to continue his training (he’s eager and food-motivated!)
- Appreciates a dog with both playfulness and couch-snuggling talent

Ryder is ready to meet his forever family.  If you’re looking for a steady, affectionate, slightly goofy best friend who will ride shotgun, sniff every trail, and cuddle like it’s his full-time job — Ryder is your guy.

Ryder is being fostered in the Wichita, KS area.
