Expert level snuggler seeks forever family. Pipkin is a medium energy border collie mix. He’s about 2-3 years old and weighs 50 pounds, the perfect size for a lap dog. His beautiful and soft coat is sure to keep you warm this winter as he snuggles up next to you (or on top of you) on the couch.

Pipkin currently lives in a foster home with two dogs and while he does well with them he would prefer to live in a single-dog home as he is dog selective and likes to be the center of attention. Pipkin loves to make human friends when company comes over and after initial greetings he likes to travel around asking for pets and laying quietly on the floor.

He is great with kids but would be best suited with children who are 6+ years old as he is still learning that putting paws on people is not the appropriate way to ask for petting. It’s very clear he is asking because after he jumps up he immediately sits politely in front of you and waits for your affection. This behavior is mostly trained and so will just need the finishing touches to eliminate the initial jumping up.

Pipkin is food motivated and knows sit and is coming along well with his recall. He does well when left in the home uncrated for short periods of time but should be crated for longer durations as he will find his own fun. He is allowed to wander the house at night but chooses to sleep on the floor near someone’s bed. He is house trained.

While he is good on walks he does get excited by squirrels, joggers, and other dogs. He will whine excitedly but if treats are present and you keep walking he can be swayed to move along. This behavior will need training but he is manageable.

Pipkin is still learning how to be a house dog and so needs positive guidance to know the right things to do. Lots of treats and love are needed during his transition to a life in his forever home but your efforts will be rewarded through his endless affection.

He is neutered and up to date on his vaccines and heart worm preventative.

Pipkin is being fostered in St. Louis, Mo.
