River is a beautiful red merle Border Collie girl who is 13 months old and weighs in at 33 lbs. She is happy to see you and ready to start the day with any adventure you may have for her. She likes to be wherever you are and in the middle of whatever you’re doing, whether that’s dropping a toy in your mop bucket or laying at your feet while you get ready for the day. She’s not super cuddly but very much tuned in to her people.

She has done well with the resident dogs in her foster home and has met a few other pup friends. She would benefit from a more mature dog to help show her the ropes. She has liked all the humans she’s met and loves to give kisses. She would do fine with older kids/teens but can still be a bit mouthy and does display some herding instinct, so no little ones.  She is not of the feline persuasion, so no cats in her new home, please. She needs an environment where someone is at home more than they are away and someone who will exercise her mind as much as her body. River is a super smart girl, eager to learn and learns quickly. She will need a family who can respect her energy and continue to train her, especially in the presence of distractions. She knows the following commands: wait, sit, down, stand, come, touch, okay, kennel and load up. She has even learned a few tricks, like spin, twirl, shake, paws up and roll over. We have done some clicker training with her.

River is an athlete, and accordingly, needs a fenced yard to train in. She has tremendous ball and disc drive, as you can see on her video. She enjoys a good game of tug and is learning impulse control. We have dabbled a little in agility as well. She would be great at disc, freestyle disc and agility. She seems not to be a fan of water just yet, so dock diving may not be in her future. She enjoys long walks and hiking and walks wonderfully on a loose leash.  She still has more work to do and will need more reassurance with bathing and nail trimming.

River likes Kong toys and anything that squeaks. She is a shredder, so your throw rugs, tennis shoe strings, soft dog toys, dog beds and stuffed animals do not stand a chance against her. She is still very much a puppy and will need to be kenneled when you’re not at home or will create her own “fun”.

River is housebroken and kennel trained. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.  

River’s needs:

• An active family that isn’t away from home most of the day
• Someone who enjoys training/dog sports
• A fenced yard
• No cats
• No small kiddos
