Hi! My name is Benji and that is the name I respond to. My MOKAN Border Collie Rescue friends call me Bennie to help keep their records straight. A while back, I was taken to the Independence Animal Shelter as a stray and was adopted by a young woman. After some time, she determined she was not a good fit for me so she returned me to the shelter. I like the shelter because they have lots of dogs and humans to play with.

The shelter contacted the MOKAN Border Collie Rescue and that is where my life changed! I miss my old friends at the shelter but I LOVE my new foster family. I was picked up by my foster mom who took me home to play nonstop with her three canine buddies. I am in heaven! I live with two humans and three dogs. We go walking almost daily. Sometimes alone and sometimes with another dog. Once the little grandhumans that visit took me on a run. It was amazing! The humans play with me daily so I can show them everything I know…focus, touch, sit, shake, high five, down, loose leash walk, come (this is where the name Benji really works for me), back, and we are working all the time on shhhh quiet. Quiet is the hardest as I just want to talk to everyone I see. I’ve met several humans and their dogs; I’ve visited Lowe’s and PetsSmart. My human REALLY shhhh’ed me in both those places but we made it through and I will go back!

I really love being with my foster’s dogs. We run and run, we play and we talk at the fence with our neighbors, both human and canine. During the day while my foster mom is working in her office, we all sleep in her tiny room where she clicks on a black thing with letters and numbers and looks at two TVs with no humans talking but with lots of black and white (colors just like me) things that make no sense to me. She spends time with a thing in her ear and sometimes there is talking and she talks back. These are the times we all know what shhhhh quiet means.

I have a swimming pool to play in, I love squeaky balls, I haven’t quite figured out the frisbees yet but they look like fun. I’ve taken walks through the park and played in the creek. I had my first bath and loved it. It was in the meeting room in the house with an indoor swimming pool (they call it a bathtub)! Foster mom came in with me and sprayed warm water and rubbed sudsy stuff on me then dried me with a machine and a towel and brushed and combed. I look and smell beautiful now.

It is so nice to be here with my foster family. I don’t get too far from my foster mom and dad and choose to sleep on their feet so I can keep track of them. When it is bed time, I love to snuggle. I don’t get bored and I don’t get into things or get mad because I’m lonely. Everyone really loves me and I love them. Mornings are a little hectic but we go outside then shortly come in for breakfast. We each have a bowl with hills in and an assigned place to eat. It is hard to eat from those hilly bowls but it sure makes the food last a little longer. I am happy and I want to thank the MOKAN BC people for rescuing me.
