Scout is a male black & white Border Collie / Australian Shepherd dog weighing in at around 35 pounds. Based on his pearly white teeth, high energy, and silly behavior I believe he’s no more than 2 years old. He’s been neutered, is current on his vaccinations, and is ready for a forever home with a fenced yard and a durable playmate.

Scout is desperate to play with his foster sister but she’s not young, durable, or big enough to handle his intensity. Scout means well, play bows constantly, but is just too big and too much dog for an 8 pound Papillon to be his playmate. He’s never mean - he just takes play very seriously! He’s a big fan of his Jolly Ball, will chase a frisbee, and is quite content to kennel up and gnaw on a nylabone. He’s kennel and house trained and a very sweet and lovable dog.

Scout needs a patient pack leader willing to put in training time. Scout is very intelligent but he’s also very high energy which makes it difficult to hold his attention. Training sessions currently are short and very focused on rewards to keep him from souring on what we’re trying to accomplish.

Scout needs a fenced yard. While he does a good job on recall he also appears to have a high prey drive as seen by his encounters with our backyard rabbits. Without an obvious barrier Scout and his high prey drive he would likely keep chasing until he caught his prey or ran into a barrier (like a car or truck!),

Scout needs a durable playmate. Scout very much likes his foster sister but she’s too small and old to be a good playmate. A more mature dog of equal or greater size would be an ideal playmate who could also show Scout the ropes. He’s a bit “mouthy” when it comes to play. He doesn’t bite but he does put his mouth on his foster sister, his foster’s hands and feet, and needs some ongoing firm correction of this behavior.

Scout has so much potential to be a great companion for an active person who can assume the role of pack leader. With the right leader he will be amazing; with the wrong leader Scout will end up in charge!
