Otter isn't ready for adoption yet, but he is available for sponsorship.  Click on the Sponsor this Pet button on his page to see how. Little Otter suffered some trauma when he was just 3 weeks old, and as a result is partially deaf and is blind in one eye.  But Otter is what you’d call courageous, perseverant and adaptable.  And besides all those big words, he’s happy, sweet, spunky, playful and curious.  He’ll need a knowledgeable family, one with experience with special needs dogs, and willing to help him achieve his potential.  Otter learns his surroundings very quickly and he has just started consistently going up stairs by himself.  It doesn’t take him long to get the lay of the land. He can hear you clap, whistle or call his name, but sometimes cannot distinguish which direction it’s coming from.  True to his name, he LOVES sunbathing. He loves his back yard and frequently gets the “zoomies”, running the length of the fence, around and back to the patio. He absolutely must have a fenced in yard to keep him safe in his new home. He follows his foster fur brother and fur cousin around and loves to play.  He also loves being wrapped up in a towel and snuggling after he gets a bath. Otter loves anything water. He likes drinking from the hose when foster mom waters the flowers.  He likes playing in his water bowl (and drinking ALL the water).  He entertains himself (and his foster family) by throwing his toys in the air.  He loves people and just being around them.  He will follow his people all around the house and yard. He would do best in a calm, quieter household.  He is a bit of a “mouthy” player, so any other dog in his family would need to be tolerant until he learns.  The same thing goes for kids.  He would do best in a home without small children, and any kids in the home need to understand he likes to communicate with his sharp little puppy teeth! (He’s just playing, of course, but yikes those things are sharp)! Otter is kennel trained and does well in his kennel.  He knows to potty outside, but has very subtle signs that he has to go, so will have accidents if not let out frequently (though he’s getting better).  He doesn’t care for leash wal He was very underweight when he came into rescue, but is putting some meat on those bones and currently weighs 15 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated.  He has been seen by both the ophthalmology and neurology specialists at the University of Missouri Veterinary Hospital and there was no treatment for his impairments at this time.  Should any new symptoms develop (unlikely), he may need followup.   If you’re interested in little Otter, please fill out an application on our website Otter is being fostered in the Kansas City area.
