Hi, I’m Romeo. Like my name says, I’m looking for someone to love.  I’m a sweet and affectionate 1 year old red and white border collie, about 30#, and looking for my very own family.

My perfect family would be an active home with another dog or 2, and someone with much love to give. In my foster home, I live with foster mom and dad, and 3 opinionated herding dogs. I’m more on the submissive side, and I get along with all of them.  Foster mom calls me a darling and says I’m a bit of an attention hog (I mean, nothing wrong with that, right)? I will never refuse pets or any kind of loving!  I adore feeding time and get so excited that I dance exuberantly before I can sit nicely and wait for my bowl.

The first part of my life wasn’t very good, so I’m shy and fearful of new people at first.  When I’m scared, I just retreat.  I’m not at all aggressive and I’d never want to hurt anyone. I need someone to help me build my confidence.  I’m doing so much better in my foster home, though. For example, I’m building confidence at the dog park.  Just this week, I tuck my tail less and have made several brave and courageous passes past large boisterous dogs and some noisy people.  Foster mom and dad are so proud of me. They say that given time and patience, I will continue to gain more social skills and trust.  They say they know I’m having fun at the park because I now jump eagerly into the car along with my foster siblings when getting ready to head there.    

Yesterday, I played with my first toy, a bedraggled stuffed monster.  Until now, I’ve been too worried about things to play with toys. But now I’m relaxed enough and you know what? It was fun!  I like going for walks and foster mom and dad are working with me on my leash skills.  I do pretty well, but sometimes I stop walking abruptly right in front of foster mom so she can pat me on the head and tell me “good boy”.  If she’s not paying attention, well, sorry foster mom. 

I love playing in the front yard with my foster sibs and parents.  I’m pretty good at coming when they call me, and I would be at your house, too, once we establish our trust.  I do require a securely fenced yard for my safety.

Romeo

Romeo is crate trained, loves to share his crate with a peanut butter filled hard bone, and sleeps all night. He is almost house trained. He was having occasional accidents in the house but this has greatly improved in his foster home. Romeo has not been tested with cats but foster mom thinks he would be fine with a dog savvy cat, or even scared of a cat.  Because of his insecurity, we are saying no small children in the home. Romeo is a wonderful dog  and will be an excellent addition to a family.  If you are interested in learning more about him, fill out an application.
