Donut is s 2-3 year old Border Collie mix. He is extremely trusting and loving. He doesn’t know a stranger and warms to people very quickly. He loves adults and kids the same. Very, very gentle with kids. We haven’t had him around toddlers, but suspect he’s be just as sweet. He is dog and cat friendly. For the most part, he avoids the cats, especially dog savvy cats who let him know they are not interested in playing. In his foster home, he lives with a large male cat who he thinks could be a play mate and has tried to play with the cat a few times much to his disappointment since the cat wants nothing to do with it. He backed off right away when the cat said no. He loves other dogs, he could live alone or with others. He would want to play with others for sure and would probably do very well at a doggy day care. He is non-reactive to “reactive” dogs. Barking , lunging or overly excited dogs don’t phase him especially when he’s on a walk and his nose is engaged. He loves to go for walks! He is extremely gentle on the leash and stays at the heel or behind pretty much all the time. Kids can walk him with ease. Donut has an immense love of car rides. We think it’s his daily goal; to get in at least two car rides. He’s happy running around with his foster dad in the work truck. Sometimes, he won’t get out when they return home!! As far as we know, he has perfect house manners. He seems completely housebroken. He has never had an accident. In fact, his potty habits are very unique. He only seems to need to “go” outside a few times a day. Even though he is out quite a bit with his foster family, he actually only goes potty 2-3 times a day. He can easily go through the night upwards of 10 hours. He did not seem crate trained when he arrived into rescue. He has learned to sleep in the crate at night, although he would not prefer it. When he arrived at his foster family, he would whine or yip about 5 minutes after being put to bed in the crate but a soft “ehh-eh” from his foster mom and he went to sleep and didn't make a peep the rest of the night. He did this for a few days and is now completely quiet after being put to bed. However, we suspect he would be perfectly fine loose in the house overnight and would just find a favorite spot on the floor to sleep. At his foster home, he is not allowed on the furniture and doesn’t attempt to jump on the furniture at all. He will go in the crate for a bit during the day but definitely doesn’t like it. He will ask to get out for about 5 minutes then quickly gives up and goes to sleep till he’s let out. He would NOT be happy in the crate for long periods of time during the day. He’d probably do much better loose in the house. Donut does not play with toys or show any interest in toys, balls or playing tug. He would much rather get a belly rub, go for a car ride or a walk. He is super easy going and just wants love and attention. But, he is not a velcro dog. He is perfectly fine with wondering off to sleep for a couple hours in one of his favorite spots. Donut is also very, very quiet. Besides the whining or yipping when he’s first put in the crate, Donut has never barked. He spends time in the back yard and even with other dogs barking at the fence or other strange noise going on, Donut does not bark in response. Donut would be a great first dog for a family with kids or a wonderful companion for a household with no children. He really just wants love and has an endless supply of love to give back!!
