Scout is a one-year-old, sweet, red tricolored, smooth-coat  Border Collie cross. She weighs in at 31 lbs. and is trying to put on a few more.

She was found as a stray and had a rope around her neck when she arrived at the shelter. The shelter staff really liked her and was happy for MoKan to help place her in a home.

She is smart and learns quickly. She is working on the following skills: sit, down, come, wait, touch, shake, spin, twirl, place, bring it, give it, over, in, out, hide, and crawl. She is food motivated and will work for her kibble.

As with most redheads, she can be a little pushy with people and other dogs and sometimes likes her food a little bit too much. So, Scout should be in a home with older, dog savvy kids.

She loves people and affection.  Did I say affection? She follows her person around the house just waiting to see what is happening next and hoping for some lovin’. She likes to snuggle with the teens in the household.

There are so many things she likes: nylabones, playing fetch, chasing rollers, going for walks, being brushed, snuffle mats, lickey mats, and soft toys. She carries a toy around in her mouth most moments of the day and can often be found with a stick or acorn in her mouth during our walks. She gathers her toys up and we often find several in the dog bed with her.

She is a moderate energy level dog and seems to have a good off switch. She requires a fenced-in backyard for you to play with her in. She has tried her hand at a few pieces of agility equipment and seemed to enjoy it. I think she would enjoy Rally-O as well.

Scout gets excited about meeting potential new dog friends. She is an extrovert and needs help dialing down her enthusiasm.

She is crate and house trained.

Scout has not been cat tested. She gets excited about fluffy tailed squirrels, so cohabitating with cats may not be a good fit.

She is up to date on her vaccines and is on heartworm and flea and tick preventative.

Scout is being fostered in Manhattan, KS.
